After working as a web content writer for small to medium sized internet businesses from 2002 to 2011 in Canberra and then Melbourne, Australia, my wife Chun Yin and I decided it was time to create our own business. I’d learnt so much from the various jobs and projects over the years, we felt it would be the best way to use all of my skills together in unison: Content writing, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and social media. Chun’s background in marketing, business and finance rounded out the equation, and we founded MiContent.com.au in October of 2011.
I first started writing for internet companies just after I began my Bachelor of Professional Writing degree at the University of Canberra. Would you believe my first writing job was writing about the internet for an internet web-hosting company? Just Google my name, ‘Jesse S. Somer’ and you’ll see a massive number of articles about anything and everything to do with the internet.
I love writing stories. Hearing about the human side behind a business and its reasons for existence provides a lot of interesting possibilities for stories. After four years of writing about all aspects of the internet I moved to a different company that was developing social media technologies, and in particular blogging software. Would you believe I spent the next two years writing blog posts about anything and everything to do with blogging?
A strange inexplicable destiny seemed to want me to become experienced in these fields. In this modern communication and information-based era, the internet is one of the places where writers are needed most, and so it’s where I went, and where I’ve come to thrive. There is a major reason for this. The internet is where people all over the world are now doing just about everything in their lives. We find out where to eat, we buy clothes, even cars, and we research holidays … you name it. Everything we do now has an associated online presence.
This is why my services, and those of other content writers, have been in demand. If you do business in this millennium and you want to make a success of it, you need to have a website, and on that website, content and blog articles for SEO, information and promotion. Sharing your thoughts about the industry you work in with potential clients or customers is how you create a relationship, and this connection often results in business.
Since those initial years I have written extensive archives of internet content for a film reviewing company, a real estate broker, broadband internet comparison site, an education site, a mobile phone site, for health products, image consultancy, for travel sites, an electronic drum company, a property development marketing agency and many more. MiContent prides itself on being able to get into the ‘shoes’ of any business or organisation, creating great stories based around its creator’s enthusiasm and experience.
We work for businesses who don’t have the time, patience, or skills to write their own website text and blog articles. You need content on your website if you want Google and other search engines to rank you in their search query lists. While attaining my Master degree in Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing from the University of Melbourne, I concurrently worked for several companies focusing on how SEO keywords and social media could affect website traffic.
At MiContent you get website content writing and editing; SEO keyword analysis for articles and blog posts; social media strategies and ongoing maintenance; the creation of a human identity for your websites; and growth in website traffic by turning your small to medium sized business websites into passionate expressions of knowledge, sources of information, and portals for relevant communication.
MiContent specialises in a one-on-one approach to content creation. Unlike many internet content writers who simply do research and then charge you for word counts, number of pages, or supposed hours spent writing, in our ongoing packages we repeatedly interview and get to know you on a personal basis. The result is writing that you can truly call, ‘My internet content’.
The MiContent blog has been created so I can share with you my thoughts, beliefs, and vital information about online content writing, SEO and social media. Sit back and have a read about all things internet content wise, and feel free to contact me if you have any project queries, or if you have a specific topic you’d like me to research and write about on this blog.
